Unmatched fuel flexibility

PowerFluid circulating fluidized bed boilers

Unmatched fuel flexibility – from biomass to alternative fuels and waste products. CFB technology is the state-of-the art technology for multi-fuel combustion.

ANDRITZ PowerFluid boilers are based on Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology to produce steam and electricity from nearly all solid fuels from biomass to alternative fuels and wastes. PowerFluid boilers employ proven, yet modern combustion technology to efficiently produce power while keeping emissions within environmentally safe limits.

ADVANTAGES

  • Exceptionally broad fuel flexibility
  • High combustion efficiency
  • Low emissions
  • Low maintenance costs
  • High availability
  • Readiness for oxygen-enriched combustion

Freedom of choice: multi-fuel design

ANDRITZ PowerFluid boilers give operators unmatched flexibility to adapt to changing fuel markets and availability:

  • Multi-fuel capability: Handles conventional fuels (coal, lignite, biomass) and alternative fuels such as:
    • Biogenic residues
    • Sludge and rejects
    • High-calorific waste fractions (RDF)
  • Fuels can be fired individually or in combination for maximum adaptability
  • Modular CFB design:
    • Standardized core components for efficient, reliable performance
    • Customizable features for optimal results in every installation
  • Large heating capacity and turbulent fluidized bed:
    • Compensates for fuel quality fluctuations
    • Ensures complete combustion even with low-grade fuels containing high moisture and ash

Superior environmental performance

The removal of nitric oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) is easily accomplished with CFB combustion. PowerFluid boilers can meet strict emission requirements without adding post-combustion cleaning equipment, such as flue gas desulfurization and selective catalytic reduction systems.

The low temperatures and staged combustion in the furnace prevent thermal NOx formation and suppress the oxidation of fuel nitrogen – resulting in low NOx formation and high fuel burnout rates. Low cost limestone used as a sorbent in the furnace captures the fuel’s sulfur components in a simple and efficient way during the combustion process.

Air- and water-cooled reciprocating step grate

Most modern power plants for the production of energy from waste (EfW) use the proven technology of heat treatment on mixed municipal waste, RDF and SRF. Air- and water-cooled combustion grates and tailor-made boilers, which are manufactured in our European facilities, are the core components of most current EfW plants.
